Alexandra Asmuth

actor/writer/singer based in NYC

About Me

Hi there! I’m Alexandra, but my friends call me Alex. I’m a actor, writer, and singer living in NYC. I’m originally from Madison, Wisconsin, so I have a midwestern charm that’s met with a global mindset, as well as very high standards for cheese. Stories have always made me feel connected to something bigger than myself. When I started voice lessons at 6 years old, something just clicked: I wanted to be a storyteller. Ever since, I’ve pursued any chance to perform, using my deep emotional well and my wit (or my own folly!) to make people laugh and feel seen.

This pursuit led me to NYU Tisch School of the Arts where I got my BFA in Drama. While at NYU I studied at Playwrights Horizons Theater School (where I discovered my voice as a writer), Stonestreet Studios, and Atlantic Acting School. My insatiable curiosity has pushed me to become a multifaceted artist, whether its acting, in works ranging from Shakespeare, Sondheim, to new works on stage/screen, or writing and directing projects of my own, or even braving an Open Mic. I’m a playful team player and an exceedingly earnest champion of others. I’m a “girl next door”, but one who kinda dislikes that term because of its inherit passivity. Everyday I strive to be a part of telling stories that make a positive impact in the world, or at least in someone’s world.

In my free time you can find me trying new restaurants, writing emo notes app poetry, or rewatching my comfort movie “When Harry Met Sally” for the millionth time. Yes, I have half of it memorized.

I hope we get to meet soon!

Two Small Words

Performed at Rhapsody Riot Play Festival in December 2024 at the Goldberg Theater

A 15 minute play about processing an unconventional teenage heartbreak; a young woman goes through a break up, but is not primarily torn up about losing the guy, but from being ghosted by a female friend as result. Confused and using humor to cope, she takes the audience on a journey through all the “what ifs” that haunt her and the anxiety of never getting the answers you need to move on.

B.F

Short film produced at Stonestreet Studios about a college friend group going through major changes while at party to celebrate a friend’s upcoming breast reduction, a.k.a a Boob Funeral or “B.F”. This short was my final project for the Stonestreet 2023 Summer Residency that I wrote, directed and edited.
